Winter is coming! If you are new to My Life Thriving, I shop for (almost) all my clothes at thrift stores and don’t buy into fast fashion trends. I decided to put a thrifting spin on the seasonal trend of posting fashion tips for the change of seasons by showing you my favorite thrift store finds to wear during that season. Hopefully seeing some possible thrifted finds with inspire you to choose slow fashion as well!

I’ve been wanting to make this post for a while, but its been so dark and gloomy in Vancouver that there was never good lighting to take the photos! I decided to just bite the bullet and go for it, so I apologize that the photos aren’t a clear as in my Fall thrifted items post. I hope you enjoy it!
How I Made This List
The clothing items I’ll be sharing here were collected over a few years and over various thrifting trips. I don’t believe you need a completely new wardrobe each year, and prefer purchasing items I know I will wear again and again! That being said, my tastes do evolve, so I do add a few new pieces now and again, and my favorites tend to shift. The collection you see here are the pieces I am most excited to wear this Fall!
I’ve tried my best to include the prices I paid for each item for you so you can get an idea of the good deals you can find! What I do to keep track of the prices over the years is take pictures of my thrift store finds with the price tags on and visible. That way if I ever want to remember how much something cost me I can look back through my camera roll and find them fairly easily. I’m guilty of being that person who loves to tell people how little my clothes cost when someone comments about them.
“Wow, I love your shirt!”
“Thanks, it was only $3.50!”
My Top 10 Thrift Store Finds for Winter 2020
1. Green Turtleneck Sweater
I got this sweater from the Salvation Army for $3.50 during a 50% off sale. It is from a brand called Beta’s Choice. I like it because it is thin, making it good for layering. It also has a sleek appearance that works for both casual and formal outfits.
2. Floral Velvet Skirt
I got this skirt from the Salvation Army for $3 during a 50% off sale. It is from a brand called Ecote. I am a huge fan of velvet and I thought this skirt looked so unique. It is shiny and fun, perfect for a New Year’s party!
3. Plaid Scarf
I got this scarf for $2.50 from Value Village during a 50% off sale. It is from a brand called Boulevard Club. It is soft and keeps you so warm. I like how it has an elegant appearance but is also extremely functional.
4. Fox Crewneck
I found this super cozy crewneck at Value Village. It is one of the more expensive items on the list at $11.49 because I bought it when there was no sale going on. I thought the fox on the front was too cute to resist! It is from a brand called A+AB. I love this for winter because it is basically a holiday sweater you can wear anytime because it’s not specific to Christmas but still looks festive.
5. White Half-Zip Fleece
I got this white fleece for $4.89 at Value Village with a 30% off coupon. It is from a brand called Cotton Ginny. It is light-weight but warm, making it perfect for layering on winter walks.
6. Hooded Wool Coat
I got this wool coat for $12.50 at Talize during a 50% off sale. It is from a brand called Weather Vane. When I saw a wool coat with a hood, I had to get it! It is so warm! It’s perfect for wearing over dresses when you have to go out in the cold weather to get somewhere and don’t want multiple layers to take off.
7. Cropped Grey Long-Sleeve
I got this long-sleeved crop top for $4 at Talize during a 50% off sale. It is from a brand called Wilfred, which is one of the more sought after brands in the Vancouver area. It would have probably cost $60-$80 new, so needless to say I was very excited about this find. I love this top because it is the perfect length for high-waisted pants or skirts and it has a simple but stylish look. It has been my go-to on many a night out.
8. Beaded Party Dress
I got this dress for $6 at Value Village during a 50% off sale. It is from Forever 21. I usually don’t like the quality of Forever 21 items, but this piece seemed to be pretty well made. I love the beaded detailing and the puffed sleeves. It has an elegant look that is perfect for Christmas parties.
9. Cozy Over-Sized Hoodie
I got this giant hoodie for $15 at Value Village. I definitely paid a bit too much, but when I tried it on it was so cozy I never wanted to take it off! It is from a brand called Deluxe By M&O and would probably not have cost much more new than what I had paid… oops. But I don’t care, I like it anyway. It is my favorite winter hoodie because it is cozy and over-sized but light-weight. I usually find that hoodies with those qualities are usually thick and heavy and end up being TOO warm to wear around the house.
10. Grey Over-Sized Sweater
I got this over-sized turtleneck sweater for $5 at Talize during a 50% off sale. I was searching for the perfect over-sized sweater for soooo long and I finally found it with this one. And it ended up just being from H&M, haha! Every other sweater I found would be too thick, or be too itchy, or it would have a giant neck hole. This one is nice and soft and works perfectly with the length of my body.
Here are some photos showing the items layered together!
