Path of the Glacier Trail in Jasper National park gives you breathtaking views of not one glacier, but two! And the whole trail only takes 1 hour to hike, round-trip! An easy hike right up to a glacier! I highly recommend Path of a Glacier Trail at Mount Edith Cavell to anyone visiting the Canadian Rockies.

Path of the Glacier Trail
Location
The Path of the Glacier Trail is located in Jasper National Park. To get to the trail head you have to drive to the end of Cavell Road, which is very long and winds up into the mountains.
Hiking Path of the Glacier Trail
The hike is only about a half hour each way, probably less if you aren’t stopping to take pictures. The way in is quite steep and has some stairs at the beginning, but it is easy to walk. The first section of the trail is paved and then turns to a dirt path leading to a beautiful viewpoint. At the end of the trail you will be able to see the Angel Glacier, as well as the Edith Cavell Glacier, which feeds into a beautiful turquoise lake filled with icebergs.
After the view point there is a section of rocks that you may be able to scramble over to get to the lake. Sometimes this section is closed for safety reasons, so make sure you stay safe and obey any signage.
Remember that you are at a high altitude! Even on a hot Summer’s day it can get quite cold near the glaciers, so make sure you have a warm layer with you.
About the Glaciers
The Edith Cavell Glacier is named after Edith Louisa Cavell, a nurse during The First World War famous for saving the lives of soldiers regardless of what side they were fighting for. The Angel Glacier gets its name because it looks like the wings of an angel with a dress (or body) in the center.
The whole trail is beautiful, so make sure you look around at the surrounding mountains as well!
I hope you enjoy your visit to the Edith Cavell and Angel Glaciers!
